Abstract:

One in three adolescents in the U.S. are victims of physical, emotional, or verbal abuse. Our group decided to educate middle school students about teen dating violence. Our project was presented at the Boys and Girls Club at Glynn Middle School. A pre-test then a post-test was given to gauge their knowledge of teen dating violence and abuse. Our group also taught that love is respect. Each student was given a goody bag full of reminders that they are worthy of respect and contact information to get help if they are in an abusive relationship. Our group was able to educate them on what qualifies as teen dating violence. The ultimate goal is to stop teen dating violence before it begins. Our long-term goal is to decrease teen dating violence in our local community. We feel this presentation should be conducted annually to this target population.
