Abstract:

This service-learning project was centered on educating the students of MorningStar on what the key elements to healthy living are, some ways to implement them, and how they affect our lives. We decided to choose MorningStar because of the work they do for students with special needs and how essential our teaching would be to them. This project had a significant impact on us because we were able to apply what we learned in the classroom and use our educational skills to impact the lives of young minds. We believe our educational project is important for our community because it provided education to the young community about healthy lifestyles which will hopefully continue as they get older. Several service-learning objectives were accomplished during this project. Understanding the community needs were demonstrated by the knowledge of the imperative need for healthy living in society and how the correct education can start a conversation about how our kids are not properly instructed in how to be healthy. We hope to expand this education to the rest of the community and further help and positively influence the lives of kids that will become tomorrow’s society.
