Abstract:

Many individuals know what a resume is and should look like, but only few actually know how to write a professional resume. The project was focused on the women of Grace House. The women of Grace House are recovering addicts who are diligently working to redirect their lives away from the drugs, alcohol, or whatever the addiction may be. One step they take in order to get their lives back on track is finding a decent job. However, it is difficult to find a decent job without having a professional, well-written resume. The group chose to teach the women of Grace House the basics of writing a professional resume, in order to increase their chances of receiving a respectable job offer, which was the overall intention of teaching this information to these women. The group presented the project via a poster presentation. At the end of the presentation, team members asked the women what they learned in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the poster presentation. The students’ project accomplished the service-learning outcomes by recognizing that landing a decent job is a huge task for the women of Grace House and by writing a professional resume, their chances of accomplishing that task are increased.
