Abstract:

For our service-learning project, we worked with the residents at the Senior Care Center in Brunswick. We brought flower pots and a variety of flowers for the residents to decorate to portray their unique style. The project was completed with the assistance of the Activities Director, Ms. Chasitee Chambers. The project impacted us personally by allowing us, a younger generation, to interact and learn from an older generation that is often missed in the current times. This project impacted the community by bringing the different generations in the community together and showing that the community of Brunswick supports their older generation living in care centers. The project helped our group apply the Service-Learning Outcomes (SLOs) by interacting with a part of the community and giving us an opportunity to give directions and lead a project start to finish. The project, even though it has no long term effects, will allow the nursing program to complete seasonal activities if desired with the residents in the future.
