Abstract:

For my project, I identified key factors relating to patients beginning dialysis in an inpatient setting opposed to a home modality option. Then, formulated a ‘lobby day’ to educate patients about all of their modality options. Interventions include education and promoting healthy infection control practices as well as providing interactive examples, such as smart classes with patients including new peritoneal patients and home hemodialysis patients and teaching patients dialysis self-care techniques and equipment management. The project was a success when patients were able to perform self-dialysis treatments unsupervised without the occurrence of bloodstream infection or damage to access.
