Jennifer Hatchel, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Biology

Dr. Hatchel works tirelessly at both the Brunswick Campus and Camden Center of the College of Coastal Georgia to promote student learning, Natural Sciences, and the College as a whole.  She has taught several service-learning courses from Microbiology to Human Anatomy and Physiology.

"After single-handedly hosting a Camden Kids in College Camp for three summers in a row, enlisting a wide range of local businesses and educators to offer a low cost college experience to elementary and middle school students, Dr. Hatchel formed a relationship with the principal of St. Marys Middle School (SMMS), Dr. Angela McManigal.  This has become a full-circle service-learning partnership.  Dr. Hatchel not only takes her students to SMMS to help the middle school students through high level biology experiments, she goes to SMMS on her days off to work with those students herself.  She is teaching them hands on STEM lessons that bring the state standards to a relevant light.  Dr. Hatchel is also strengthening the relationship between the College and the Camden County School system in the hopes that these middle school students will one day become Mariners."

“My work with Nurse Johnston at Mary Lee Clark Elementary school helps to get the College noticed in the Camden community. The younger students see me or my students and remember the activities they did with us. I am continuously trying to increase partnerships with people in Camden and this is one way of accomplishing that goal. It also helps Nurse Johnston accomplish her goals of getting information to the students about topics such as head lice, influenza, and the importance of hand washing.”
