The courses she teaches are the first and final courses Associate of Science Nursing students complete in a four-part service-learning course series. Professor Barnes has reached 424 students through service-learning (S-L) courses and countless other students through her work here at the College. Her students have been engaging in poster presentations of their S-L collaborative projects at the annual Service-Learning Symposium since 2017.

“Ashley Barnes is always looking for new and creative strategies to engage students in projects that reinforce nursing concepts in a community experience. Her willingness to think outside of the box facilitates an opportunity for students to grow and experience learning in a variety of meaningful ways.”
