History has a place in understanding where mathematics come from in an attempt to discovery how and why concepts were discovered. This was a major area of focus in Dr. Laura Lynch’s History of Mathematics service-learning courses. Dr. Lynch started teaching service-learning courses in fall 2012 and has gone on to teach several additional service-learning courses. In each of these, her goal was to help students understand why it is essential that they learn different concepts and how they relate to the real world.
