Dr. Roscoe Scarborough has implemented a service-learning course which included a project focused on behaviors considered deviant in order to understand the labeling of certain populations. In his Sociology of Deviance course, students were placed into groups with each identifying a community partner serving or addressing a population that is associated with deviant behaviors. Through this course, Dr. Scarborough engaged students in projects to understand which social factors leads to a group being labeled due to specific traits, characteristics, or behaviors.
