Dr. Stephanie Conner taught her first service-learning course in the fall of 2020. It was a cross-disciplinary collaboration with students who planned to join the nursing program at the College when eligible. Within this specialized course, students gained English Composition skills related to the technical writing and communication found in the field of nursing. Students in this course collaborated with the Glynn County Health Department to compose a variety of research-based, multi-platform social media posts for the Health Department to share and meet their education outreach goals.

“For the past two years, Dr. Conner has offered an English Composition I course designed specifically for students pursuing degrees in healthcare.  The purpose of the course is for these students to connect and better understand the importance of English to their future careers in this field. Ms. Connor’s past experience and success with these classes make the incorporation of a service-learning component within these classes a natural fit.  This service-learning class will be a valuable learning experience for her students while also filling vital community need.”
