Dr. Claire Hughes sat on the Quality Enhancement Plan Steering Committee that brought the emphasis of service-learning teaching and learning to the College of Coastal Georgia. She also piloted one of the very first service-learning courses at the College back in spring 2011. Dr. Hughes infused service-learning in several additional courses before becoming a Visiting Fellow at Oxford University and a Fulbright Scholar in Greece. Lucky for the College and her colleagues, Dr. Hughes has returned and is teaching a service-learning course in collaboration with Glynn County School System’s REACH Program.
“This semester, teacher candidates in Dr. Hughes’s Diverse Populations in Special Education service-learning course are serving as peer mentors to students in the REACH Program through Glynn County Schools. It’s a wonderful opportunity for candidates and students in this program to leverage their strengths in working together and learning from one another.”
