Professor Lee McKinley has been integrating service-learning into several of her courses since fall 2016. Through these service-learning courses she has fostered community engagement activities in over 65 students working with a variety of College and Glynn County Government community partner agencies. In Professor McKinley’s early projects, her students worked to review County data as it related to a local superfund site and health concerns for citizens. In another service-learning project, Professor McKinley and her students worked with Coastal Georgia Athletics teams and trainers for collection and analysis of health data for athletes. A more recent partnership was with the Department of Public Health – Coastal Health District in which students worked with the district epidemiologist on a time study of visitor intake at the various health departments.  This semester, students are working with the Humane Society and Safe Harbor.

“Lee McKinley has been committed to service-learning since her arrival on campus several years ago. This commitment focuses service-learning on juniors and seniors, as Health Informatics is largely comprised of upper-level courses. As such, Lee’s commitment to service-learning impacts students who are very close to entering their professional careers.
