Abstract:

STAR Foundation is a non-profit organization that focuses on providing job readiness and life skills. STAR Foundation educates and encourages adults in Coastal Georgia to become self-sufficient through a program of computer, job, and lifeskills training. STAR students have the opportunity to earn a desktop computer upon completion of the 8-week program. For our service-learning project, we created and implemented the “Attire for Hire” Program. We worked closely with Ellen Murphy, Executive Director of STAR. The program was funded by a grant from the Rotary Club of St. Simons Island. Attire for Hire provides each STAR student with the opportunity to earn a full interview outfit through a voucher reward system. We also hosted a media event at STAR to raise awareness in the community of all the STAR Foundation has to offer.
