Title: A Genomic Analysis of Persistence: Persistence of Gene 64

Presenters: Sarah Channell

Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Holly Nance

Abstract: The goal of this research was to annotate the novel bacteriophage, Persistence. This phage was isolated from a soil sample at the College of Coastal Georgia on its host bacteria Arthrobacter globiformis. The SEA-PHAGES (Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science) semester long, genome annotation course has provided the opportunity to learn more about Persistence and the functions and lengths of each gene. The function and start site of gene 64 were unknown and the focus of my research. The start site of this gene was determined as 34633 bp and a stop of 35460 bp. The function of this gene was determined to be RecE exonuclease.
