Title: Etiquette of GIFing in the Digital Era

Abstract:  This poster presentation displays the findings of a survey conducted to accomplish two goals:(1) to investigate different interpretations of emotions and expressions associated with specificGIF communication and (2) decipher socially acceptable venues and usage for GIFs according to the digital society’s decorum. We found that GIFs are a relevant and valid form of communication and expression for a variety of purposes and intentions. GIFs are widely held asa valued mode of communication despite the opportunity for misinterpretation.
