Take a  good look at your text book.  You can even look ahead to chapters that you have not read yet. Jot down some names, places, and events that look interesting. Go to www.wikipedia.org to find out more details about the subject. Once you have some name terms and dates in hand it becomes easier to locate a book that covers the subject

How to read a library catalog of books entry

Spending a little time learning how to use the library catalog of books will have big rewards not only in this assignment but in the future. After you have done a litlle searching by subject, title. author or even key words you will see information like the example below.

The search that was typed in was "Project Mercury". Take a good look at what the library catalog can tell you without ever seeing the book in person.

Description: 352 p. illus. 25 cm. (this line tells you that the book is 352 pages long)
Subject(s): Project Mercury (U.S.) (These lines give you the main subject of the book and link to other related subjects)

Location: Bookstacks - Camden - normal circulation is 28 days (this line tells you there is a copy at the Camden Center Library)
Call Number: TL789.8 .U6 M59 c.2 (this line gives you a call number that will tell you the location of the book on the shelf)

Status: Not Charged (this line indicates that the book is on the shelf and nobody has charged it out)

You can request that it be sent down from Main Campus...there are more books at Main Campus sow you will see it more frequently as the book's only location. Please note we do keep a copy of every book at both libraries.)
