Social Media Campaign for 'Keep Golden Isles Beautiful' to Increase Environmental Awareness

Adolescent suicide attempts are increasing; many children do not possess the needed skills to handle day-to-day stressors associated with their age group. The project, implemented with Terrill Thomas Boys & Girls Club, was designed to equip fourth and fifth grade girls with the skills to constructively express and process their emotions using art therapy and community involvement. The group conducted an art therapy session in which adolescent girls decorated bandanas for adoptable pets in their community. The project allowed girls to impart personal influence on a community issue while engaging in art therapy. Unhealthy coping mechanisms resulting in suicide is an area needing attention. Providing adolescent girls the proper skills to deal with stress instills healthy coping mechanisms. Future partnerships, involving other adolescent groups and possible annual participation, may be used to further the group goal of preventing negative outcomes associated with stress.
