Abstract:

This semester I decided to do my project on ocean pollution and its effects on the ocean itself and we humans. I had the privilege of working with a local community partner known as Keep Golden Isles Beautiful whose main goal is in its name, “keep the Golden Isles beautiful”. They do this through multiple cleanups and helping set codes to keep harmful objects from entering into our waterways. During the month of March I was involved in a marsh cleanup in which I got down and dirty helping keep harmful plastics and other substances from entering into marshes and eventually into our oceans. Knowing that I was able to act and help a cause I care about, but seeing all the trash just along the side of one road has stuck out to me since then. I’ve also created a flier for the purpose of spreading the news about our oceans current state to others within the community and hopefully spread out farther.  I think many others should be involved in things like this that help keep our home and oceans clean and if we can think of the effects that our trash has on the ocean and do something to actually keep it from going there, we can help the ocean and even ourselves.
