Abstract:

My experience at the Boys and Girls Club was very eye-opening, I had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of what it is like to have students with several different needs. Having students with various needs means you must figure out how to implement strategies and methods beneficial for each student. To achieve this goal, I begin by building relationships with the students I worked with to become comfortable with me. My students were able to learn so much and master the functional writing process by using their Reader’s Notebook. Given this learning experience, I will use Readers Notebooks in my classroom as a future educator. I have also realized how critical reading, fluency, and phonics are to start practicing with students at a young age.
