Into the Minds of Readers

Abstract:
In the month of February and March I was awarded the opportunity to participant in a Service- Learning project at the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia. From 2:30 till about 5:30 I worked closely with a student to develop their reading and writing skills. A Reader’s notebook was a technique I used to see and understand my students thinking. Using the readers notebook and other research-based strategies I worked to develop not only a proficient reader but also aimed to instill a lifelong love and appreciation for literature. While my role was to teach, everything I learned throughout this process will truly be beneficial to my career as a future educator.
