Tutoring for the Blueprint Project

Authors: Senior Capstone Practicum in Psychology Class members

Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Kimberly Kinsey Mannahan

Abstract:

For the Senior Capstone Practicum in Psychology class service-learning project, class members teamed up with United Way of Coastal Georgia and The Boys and Girls Club to provide tutoring for the High School Blueprint Project. One of the prongs of the Blueprint Project involves providing individual tutoring for each sixth grade student in the program. Thirty-one students completed the application process, background checks, and extensive training to become a tutor. They committed to one semester of weekly one-on-one tutoring with a student from the Blueprint project. The tutoring sessions involved working on either math or language arts with the tutees. The capstone students have relished the opportunity to give back to their community. Through this service-learning experience, the students have gained invaluable knowledge and experience that will serve them well in their future endeavors.
