Students Show Their... Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Authors: Jackson Beard and David LeDonne

Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Rebecca Sharpe

Abstract:

This service-learning course in English 1102 enabled students to engage in the community-wide event, "The Big Read."  Through the students' participation in the promotion of the month-long events for "The Big Read," they were able to interact with other community partners and build strong relationships and develop skills in community leadership and social responsibility. The students were also able to not only study and learn about the famous author, Mark Twain, but they were able to share this knowledge with others through presentations, newspaper articles, and book discussions.
