Reducing Childhood Injuries and Fatalities by Expanding Proper Use of Car Seats

Author: Hannah Carmichael

Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Mary Eleanor Wickersham

Abstract:

This project was a partnership between CCGA and the Glynn County Health Department and focuses on enhancing the department’s efforts to reduce child injury and fatality through providing car seats and education about proper use of car seats to eligible Glynn County residents. Although the Department receives state funding for eight car seats per month for distribution to children eligible for Medicaid, the number is not sufficient. Those who are needy but not eligible for Medicaid cannot participate in the program. If successful, the grant written by Hannah Carmichael will provide an additional 35 car seats during the next year, which will be used to reduce the current waiting list for car seats and to make car seats eligible to other families in need.
