Partnering for Piloting a Technology Program for High Needs Students

Author: Chris Jones

Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Mary Eleanor Wickersham

Abstract:

This grant proposes a pilot project to test the effectiveness of a "one-to-one laptop program" to provide take-home technology to Risley Middle School students who do not have access to computers at home. The pilot program will serve 10 students in the first year, but if the program is successful, it has the potential to serve hundreds of students who could benefit through greater access to technology. Risley teachers believe that by incorporating interdisciplinary studies into the take home laptop model, they can not only address inequality of opportunity but also strengthen core subject skills.
