Integrating Service-Learning Principles into Biology Club Community Engagement

Abstract:
This inspiration for this project originated from the service-learning course, Conservation Biology, which utilizes key concepts at Cannon’s Point Preserve. After recognizing an opportunity for continued involvement, we used our leadership positions in the College of Coastal Georgia Biology Club to strengthen the college’s connection with community partners including the Saint Simons Land Trust and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Simultaneously, we were able to provide club members with a well-rounded experience and increased professional development from volunteer opportunities.
