Abstract:

“Food for Thought” originated from assessing the community need in Brunswick and partnering with FaithWorks Ministries. The focus has specifically been to reduce the impact of occurring disease processes within this population. A large portion of individuals that are homeless are afflicted with diet-related health conditions. However, by changing their diets they can maintain their current level of functioning and prevent further decline. The team implemented a variety of techniques that educated the staff, volunteers, and guests of The Well on ways to choose and consume healthier, cost-effective meals and snacks. This project was initially viewed as rigorous but the community provided aid with the goals, and the residents of The Well will continuously benefit.
