Director of STEM; Associate Professor of Mathematics
During spring of 2019, Dr. Miller implemented her best service-learning project to date. For this project, teacher education candidates had the opportunity to go into the Roosevelt Lawrence Community Center and teach geometric concepts to low-income, predominantly minority, under-served students. The teacher candidates also authored and illustrated books to go along with their lessons. Having the teacher candidates to implement the geometry lessons at the Center, allowed one-on-one teacher candidate and student interactions and special attention to the individual students. The books allowed the teacher candidates to emphasize the importance of reading and incorporating literature into all subject areas.
