Service-Learning: Guide

Service-Learning at Coastal Georgia

Service-learning contributes to College of Coastal Georgia's institutional mission by advocating excellence in scholarship and community engagement.

It is a teaching and learning method that utilizes a combination of academic course content and relevant service with community agencies.

What is Service-Learning

Service-learning offers a unique opportunity for America's young people -- from kindergarten to college students -- to get involved with their communities in a tangible way by integrating service projects with classroom learning. Service-learning engages students in the educational process, using what they learn in the classroom to solve real-life problems.  Students not only learn about democracy and citizenship, they become actively contributing citizens and community members through the service they perform.

Learn and Serve

America's National Service-Learning Clearinghouse supports the service-learning community in higher education, kindergarten through grade twelve, community-based organizations, tribal programs, and all others interested in strengthening schools and communities using service-learning techniques and methodologies.
